About Dave
Quick bio:
I was born in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1977, and lived thereabouts for the following 18 years. After deciding at an early age that I wanted to make a living from computers, I went to study at the University of Stirling, in Scotland, for the next four years. Eventually, I earned a B.Sc. in Software Engineering.
In the summer of 1999 I started working in Madrid, Spain, for Xerox Professional Services, working mainly in dynamic document composition. My main body of activity was with spanish mobile carrier Amena, where I was in charge of bill generation.
Bored (and poor), I switched to the wild world of Internet consulting in 2000, by joining Netdecisions as a Senior Software Engineer and Architect. Although mainly based in Madrid, I did get the opportunity to work in London for a couple of months. My enthusiasm at learning new technologies led me to participate in all the more unusual projects that came up, which was usually fun and educational. Unfortunately, the bubble burst and the Madrid office closed its doors in December 2002.
In early 2003, after a couple of months rest, I joined OpenSistemas, another Internet consultancy, this time with a focus on Free and Open Source Software, something I have always been interested in. As an architect and developer, I was involved in projects in an even wider range of technologies than before, from Axis to Zope, and although I remained very technical throughout, towards the end of my stint I was focusing almost exclusively on project management.
At the moment, I have just started at FatWire Software, a content management vendor, where I am part of the professional services division in Madrid.
When I’m not in front of a computer, I enjoy playing music, reading and trying new food&drinks.
